You will not see the Nivin Pauly style you are expecting in Moothon and that is the best thing about Moothon. The movie begins on an island in Lakshwadeep, where a few kids dream about the world they want to see. Among them is Mulla played by Sanjana Dipu, who longs to go to Mumbai. He wants to head to Mumbai to find his elder brother.

The turn of events helps Mulla escape to Mumbai’s Kamathipura, but reality hits the teenager hard. Mulla’s journey is almost a thriller with many hairpin bends. During his journey Mulla meets Rosy played by Sobhita Dhulipala, a sex worker, and then is kidnapped by Bhai played by Nivin Pauly and his right hand man Salim played by Shashank Arora, along with Aamir played by Roshan Mathew. Then we come to know Akbar and how he turned into Bhai. Now the story that unfolds is an emotionally charged story of self discovery.

Moothon Malayalm Movie Review

What we see in Geetu Mohandas‘ direction is both soothing and harsh. We see the Mumbai underbelly Geetu uses Mulla’s eyes to tell us the first story and in the second dark plot she displays the physical power of Bhai. The narrative goes back and forth and brings twists and turns in the story. The movie has its own shortcomings and could have been more crisper.

Every time you watch Moothon you will get a different feel. Nivin Pauly plays two varying roles, which is the most risky role in his career. He uses his body language to play two avatars perfectly.

Moothon is unquestionably a groundbreaking performance by Nivin Pauly. Its a bold step on both Nivin Paluly’s and Geetu Mohandas‘ end. Other cast who shine are Sanjana Dipu and Roshan Mathew with balanced performances. Rajeev Ravi’s Cinematography has captured the two locales beautifully.
