The 1971 war against Pakistan took place during the Independence struggle of Bangladesh in East Pakistan( Now Bangladesh). India aided East Pakistan in ending the oppressive regime of West Pakistan (now Pakistan). Pakistan attacked western part of India so as to use any captured areas as a bargaining tool to exchange against the East Pakistan areas captured by India.

Various airbases were attacked by Pakistan, among which Bhuj was the territory hit majorly. On the night of 8th Dec. PAF dropped more than 14 bombs on Bhuj Indian Airforce airstrip, rendering it unusable and the Indian fighter jets there could not be used.BSF was responsible for rebuilding the airstrip but labour was scarce and time was passing every minute. It was now that 300 residents of Madhopur in Bhuj, mainly women decided to take to responsibility of rebuilding the airstrip and defend the nation in 72 hours.

Bhuj: The pride of India directed by Abhishek Dhudhaiya is about the story of these unsung bravehearts and the story of their exemplary bravery. Kudos to Ajay Devgn for bringing this story to the limelight. How wee it is executed is another matter.

Nowadays Indian war movies have changed from chest thumping to showing war heroes as normal humans. War heroes are respected and revered but not shown as infallible. Reality in their valour being of essense, which is not the case here

Bhuj: The pride of India makers in the beginning itself warn you with a disclaimer that this is a work of fiction based on real incidents. Which explains their dramatic approach to history. The Movie repeatedly leaves aside logic to make the gallery happy. You may say everything is fair in love and war but making a war sequence look irrational to play on the viewers emotions. A Bhajan mandli at the rebuilt airstrip which may be under attack anytime is beyond logic.

The first half has all the artists playing cameo breaking into patriotic speeches. The first half lacks order, but the second one redeems the movie having all the action.Ajay Devgn has plenty of slo-mo shots that bring out the intensity in his character. Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharad Kelkar and Ammy Virk have done their job decently well. Navni Parihar as former PM Indira Gandhi was a good casting decision.

If you can ignore the the shortcomings and focus on the story Bhuj : The pride of India is a decent watch.
